I wanted to create a Rembrandt style lighting (named after the famous 17th century Dutch artist) for this shot using a simple one light setup. Using a light positioned overhead and off to a 45 degree angle, the Rembrandt light is characterized by an illuminated triangle under the eye of the subject on the less illuminated side of the face. I used a godox AD200 pro bare bulb in a 32″ x 32″ softbox as the key light to the left. As you can see from the diagram below, the light is turned slightly away from the subject towards the camera, a technique called feathering the light, to make the light even across the face. To fill the shadows on the right, I used a white reflector. The textured background was added in post.

Camera/Lens/Exposure: Fuji X-T2, 56mm, f/2.8 1/250s ISO400
